For Flight 4!

Hello! Sorry long time no post. I'm getting ready for a two-month vacation to Europe-land (if anyone has some general advice about travelling through England/France/Italy... y'know, how to not starve because of food prices, the usual, etc.), I'd love to hear it!). Anyway, here are two pages for Flight 4.... I'm gonna barrel through these when I get back. Second one's still in progress, obviously.

By the by, APE was fantastic! You guys can see some reports of this very pleasant event by Jen, Vera, and Erika. San Francisco is just too pretty for its own good and has too many great places to eat (with the help of some incredibly hospitable locals!). Ok.... need sleep.

The Vampire prints will be offered up when I get back! We're hoping Nucleus will be printing them for us on their super nice paper, plus they're just darn nice people.

Have fun on your Europe tour!

In England, pasty places are usually a little more expensive than sandwich shops, but are a cheap way to get filling, hot food. Youth hostels are also good, both for decent accomodation and cheap-but-good-food (particularly breakfast). Avoid McD's, simply because.

Eating out is cheap in France and Italy.

Clio- Did you really go to Pixar or did I read it wrong? I looked at Jen's pics (I think it was Jen's) and it said something about Pixar. That would be amazing! Have fun on your trip. Looking forward to seeing some new work!

In England go to london.. otherwise there is no point..
and if you are to use public transport go to a tube station first and get an oyster card.. even if you are to use bus.. it makes public transport cheaper.. yes.. its like £3 to get one.. and then its cheap to travel with.. so get one.. unless you are rich and can afford taxis..
and rome is teh sex... their fake designer bags look almost real, good gifts for people you cant be bothered to spend loads on

Hmm. Gonna go to Italy? You should visit Gubbio! It's such an adorable little town! Seriously. Go to Branca and Gubbio. (I went last spring... We have relatives up there. Heheh.)

Oh, and don't get Chinese food in Florence. It's... different. Not my thing... (I don't really like prawns.)

Have fun in Europe!

You can keep the blog going as a travel diary while you're over there. Take plenty pix too! Wow! Two months! It will change your life.
In London you can go to the British Museum and hang out in the amazing atrium they built to enclose the old building in a huge glass domed sculpture court. Beautiful. It's free or pay-what you can admission.

Nice stuff for Flight 4.

have a blast!! just watch for pickpockets in the heavy tourist areas. and whatever you do...don't catch any flying babies...DO drink plenty of wine and eat from the fresh markets if you can (cheaper).nutella is your friend. a baguette, a bottle of wine, some deli ham and cheese and your set!

as someone who is staying in oxford at the moment, and with some interesting experiance recently in france, Holland, Belgium (a regretful mistake on all counts) and Germany here are my suggestions

I suggest in france, to eat, I maintained a diet of strawberries (don't think they are all priced and quanitized the same, search around just a tad, the ones on the outside of big markets cost more than if you struggle through the crowd a bit) and bread. as sandwich shoppes charge 7 euro for a crapply made sandwich and a coke (3.50 euro for a 330ml can mind you.)

but for my typical food romp, usually about a 4 euro (that's right) affair when you add some (unpasturized, you are canadian, so no doubt you understand the delight that is) cheese for the same budget if you find the right market place.

italy, beware eye contact with beggers, and wear a ring to look married, least you be molested (no joke.) by random strangers who find you attractive... the italians are very, very pushy people.
oh,
in france as well, if a woman who looks bosnian asks "do you speak english" and thrust a card at you about being stranded/homeless/needing food and saying "please, please" ignore her, and watch your pockets.
I fell for it once, I warn all who follow in my steps.
I wont go further into it, but they are out there and yes, they are unionized (no kidding, with pimps and everything, begger pimps.)

England, I have stayed here for 9 weeks so far, and I still can't tell you where the cheapest place to eat is. again, oxford is generally more expensive for food because they love digging into college student's pockets. but you can get these wrapped pot pies (not cornish pasties) for about 1 pound sterling. or creame tea, which is basicly tea, two crumpets, or scones, depending, and clotted creame (read: butter) and jam. usually for less than 4 quid.

and remember, bathroom isn't bathroom, it is toilet, and in other countries, the universal sign for toilet is "WC"

usually costs money to use public toilets, but they are spotlessly clean-- so much that you may eat off them if you really want to.
